Payment of Fees
Course fees are paid at registration. All fees for licensure renewal courses shall be remitted by electronic format. Such electronic collection shall be by Pay Pal(credit card or electronic fund transfer)  The exception to this procedure will be payment made by school districts via the purchase order procedure. AEA 1-Technology Integration in the Classrooms (TIC) 2013

This course number 21361 is for AEA 1 people to register for credit. In this course, many different opportunities will be given to attend sessions about using technology in the classrooms. Hands-on sessions will be offered, allowing educators to actually experience the use of the technology. Participants will complete online activities related to their learning at the conference. Readings on the topic of technology integration will be required. They will also be required to reflect on the knowledge, especially on appropriate methods of using technology in their everyday job assignments. No prerequisites are required. Class Interventions for Working with Child with Anxiety Disorders - REGISTRATION CLOSED

Friday - January 18, 2013; 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm Saturday - January 19, 2013; 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Teachers are being asked to deal with ever increasing challenges each day. A most recent challenge for teachers has been dealing with the large number of children and adolescents who have a mental illness. There are ever increasing number of children who are being diagnosed with anxiety disorders. This course is designed for teachers, school counselors and administration. Students with anxiety are frequently misdiagnosed because of its similarities to other mental health disorders. Participants will learn about the diagnostic characteristics of the various types of anxiety and the other types of disorders that mimic the symptoms of this disorder. It is also common for clients with this disorder to experience academic and behavioral struggles. Participants will learn methods to prevent and/or reduce behavioral issues and power struggles, as well as gain strategies to assist their students academically. The role of medications will be discussed as well as the current methods of treatment. (Para Recert Approved)

This class will explore the latest (and free), Web 2.0/social networking Internet resources that can be used in all curriculums. Have your students collaborate on documents, edit photos, create online slide shows and share bookmarks. Develop a blog, start a wiki, create podcasts, collaborate with Google documents, news feeds (RSS) and much more. Make your curriculum more interactive and engaging for your students. Web 2.0 tools are very adaptable, and can be used at virtually any grade level and across all curriculum areas. This class will provide practical advice and numerous examples of how these web-based technologies can be used for learning and teaching. Participants will use Web 2.0 tools to manage and develop student centered lessons that allow them to create, collaborate and connect with the world community. Creating Communities of Civility - REGISTRATION CLOSED

March 12, 19, 26 and April 9, 16, 2013; 4:00-7:30 p.m. This course will offer teachers practical insights, inspiring stories, and tested strategies for bringing out the best in their students. The course, based on Hal Urbana's book, Lessons from the Classroom: 20 Things Good Teachers Do, will incorporate numerous down-to-earth methods on how to create a classroom climate that promotes students to think positively, work hard, and treat others with respect and care. Integrating Mimio in Your Classroom - CANCELLED

January 28, February 4, February 11, February 18, February 25, 2013 ; 5:00-8:00 pm In this class you will learn how to integrate an interactive whiteboard into your classroom. You will develop interactive whiteboard lessons in Language Art, Math and other subject areas. Interactive whiteboards have a shown to be a positive effect on motivation and engagement. Stress Management for Teachers - REGISTRATION CLOSED

March 22, 2013; 4:00 - 10:00 pm March 23, 2013; 8:30 am - 5:30 pm Teaching is important and yet challenging work. The expectations made of those of us working in schools continue to grow. Many of the students in our classrooms have greater needs than ever before. As educators, we are better able to meet the demands of this profession when we strive for personal wellness. In this course, you will learn how stress affects you, identify aspects of your personal and professional lives that are stressors, and discover practical strategies to cope with stress. My minimizing the negative effects of stress, we can improve our health, better respond to the needs of our students and become more effective educators. Working with Students of Poverty - CANCELLED

January 18, 2013; 4:00 - 10:00 pm January 19, 2013; 8:30 am - 5:30 pm Nearly all educators are middle class, one in five children in the United States lives in poverty. School districts across the country are recognizing that a high number of "low-income" students fall into the "low performing" category on standardized tests, which is putting schools and districts on the watch list as part of the "No Child Left Behind Act." In this workshop we will examine issues in the lives of children and families in generational poverty. We will look at language, "hidden rules" among classes, resources, discipline, building relationships, support systems, working with parents, and appropriate instructional practices. Ruby Payne's book, A Framework for Understanding Poverty, materials from a number of other sources, the instructor's experiences, and lively discussion form the core of this course. Students will have the opportunity to apply this material to their current teaching assignment. You will need to purchase the text for this class. (Para Recert Approved)
